Organized by the Laboratory for Optimization of Renewable Electricity gRids (LORER), the Summer School aims to foster reflection and discussion on the latest advances addressing the challenges at the heart of the energy transition. This second edition will expose graduate students, engineers, and future experts to a range of cutting-edge optimization and learning methods in the context of modern power systems.

The Summer School

A Week of Courses and Seminars

Specialized seminars and hands-on workshops on numerical implementation, presented by world-renowned experts.

Poster Session and Networking

A scientific poster session will provide participants with an opportunity to share their recent work, while a networking event will bring together professionals and researchers.

Industrial Visit and Outdoor Activity

An industrial visit related to the Summer School theme will provide direct exposure to local energy infrastructure.

Industry Panel

A panel of experts will provide insights into the local industry and employment opportunities for graduate students in today's job market.

Overview of Topics

Machine learning, large-scale optimization, power system operation, demand response, electromagnetic transient simulations, energy policy, uncertainty in power systems, etc.

About LORER

The LORER research group at Polytechnique Montréal develops mathematical methods combining optimization and machine learning for decision-making in renewable power systems. The laboratory is affiliated with the international research centers GERAD and Mila, which focus respectively on operations research and artificial intelligence.

Participation

Graduate Students

Master's and PhD students, as well as postdoctoral researchers with a strong interest in renewable power systems, are invited to participate. University credit option available (details coming soon).

Professionals

R&D analysts and industry engineers are invited to participate to expand their knowledge of numerical methods for power systems and discuss current challenges and proposed solutions.

Professors and Experts

International experts and renowned professors will give lectures and seminars and participate in discussions.

Industry

Professionals from the Montréal and Québec energy ecosystem will participate in networking events
