    Cell Energy Metabolism: State Estimation and Choice of a Sensor Sequence

    Cell components are estimated in a model describing the cell energy metabolism. To this end, an extended Kalman filter is designed using glucose, lactate and CO2 measurements. In order to determine the best sequence, an optimization can be performed as online measurements can be expensive and unconvenient.

    Development of a Kinetic Model: The Problem of Parameters Identification

    Kinetic models can involve a lot of parameters. Thus, their identification becomes a really difficult task. This is facilitated by the “extents of reaction” method that allows to focus on each reaction independently. This study aims at describing genetically modified potato hairy roots with the goal of increasing starch content.

    A Kinetic-Metabolic Model Describes CHO Cell Behaviour

    A descriptive and predictive mathematical model of cell behaviour is being developed for the design and control of cell culture conditions.The modeling approach looks at closely describing cell biology, a criterion that requires, however, a high number of parameters. We thus present here a challenging problem for the optimization community.

    Control, Optimization and Systems Biomedicine

    This talk will briefly highlight some recent challenges regarding the optimization of complex biological systems, including a discussion on the internal feedback loops by which a cell can optimize its behaviour in a dynamic environment. Some remarks will be made on the potential applications for biomedicine.
