The Role of Integrated Assessment Models in Climate Policy Design
Integrated assessment models provide a structured framework to support climate policy design by jointly evaluating mitigation, adaptation, and geoengineering strategies. This tutorial introduces the integrated assessment approach and reviews selected models developed at GERAD. A particular focus is placed on the MERGE and AD-MERGE frameworks, which integrate economic, energy, and climate dynamics. These models illustrate how interactions among strategies shape policy trade-offs, improve system-wide consistency, and inform robust decision-making under climate uncertainty.
