Large Scale Optimization with FICO(r) Xpress Optimization Suite

    • Majid Bazrafshan, presenter, FICO

Businesses across all industries are facing tremendous pressure to increase margin, address compliance, and drive customer-centricity - while facing the pressures of new, agile competition and determining how to make sense of Big Data. In this session, you'll learn how organizations are using the premier mathematical modeling and optimization solution in the world - FICO(r) Xpress Optimization Suite - to rapidly develop and deploy optimization applications that solve complex, real-world business challenges. You'll hear how operations research and business analysts alike can create, deploy and utilize business optimization solutions based on scalable high-performance algorithms, a flexible modeling environment, and rapid application and reporting capabilities for on-premises and cloud installations. We'll share actual use cases of industrial projects we are currently engineering in aviation, supply chain, energy, and healthcare, along with a description of the performance of our Xpress Optimization Solver.

  • 02:25 PM - 02:50 PM

    OR Practice in Industry

    • Stéphane Alarie, presenter, Institut de recherche d'Hydro-Québec

After a short review of problems I worked on along my practice in the industry, I will talk about the challenges we continuously face as practitioner.

  • 02:50 PM - 03:15 PM

    Hydropower Optimization for Aluminium Production

    • Pascal Côté, presenter, Rio Tinto

Rio Tinto Aluminium owns and operates two hydropower systems in Canada for aluminium production. The water management of these systems is an essential task. Numerous optimization problems must be solved to achieve efficient operating strategies. Several decision support tools have been developed, but optimization problems remain highly challenging and these tools are in continuous development. The aim of this talk is to present works that have been conducted over the last 5 years in our collaborative R&D project, and to describe future challenges.
